Module 2: LTE Evolution and Fundamentals
This training module is intended to be the foundation for the upcoming modules and is specifically designed keeping in mind the audience which could be diverse, from being an engineer to a Technical Manager to an Engineering student, everyone shall be able to relate to the module and register the fundamentals.

Module 3: LTE Air Interface
This training course will cover the major aspects of the LTE Air Interface in a manner that both technical and non-technical people will be able to fully appreciate. The course begins with a review of the LTE system architecture in order to fully establish the context of the radio interface operation and protocols. This initial section will also cover issues related to spectrum and deployment of LTE systems as well as comparing the 3 three main “evolutionary” radio technologies, LTE, WiMAX and UMB.
The central theme to LTE is the OFDMA and SC-FDMA radio multiplexing and modulation technique, the operation of this technology is explained and the choice of technologies used for LTE physical layer are justified. Layer 2 of the LTE protocol stack contains three sub-layers, MAC, RLC and PDCP as well as the control protocol RRC, and the main elements of each of these protocols is explained, showing how each relates to issues of mobility and mobility management with example of typical procedures given. Architectural and operational aspects of the Multicast Broadcast Multimedia Service are also covered.

This module explains the LTE Air Interface, including an in-depth look at the OFDMA Physical Layer and the techniques that are used to maximise LTE radio performance when compared to previous cellular technologies.
It also explores techniques and technologies that further improve the performance of LTE networks – radio network optimisation, mobility and interworking optimisation, LTE Advanced features, and LTE planning in a small cells / HetNets environment. This module also incorporates hands-on optimisation using the software tool.
Module 6: LTE Advanced: Small Cells, HetNet Planning and Optimization
During the introduction sections of this 3 day programme, small cells categories and classifications are defined and various used cases are described including the small cell as part of the heterogeneous network. After a quick overview of LTE, small cells utilised in an LTE network is covered including CSG and Home eNB, as well as LTE, small cells may be incorporated into other technologies like UMTS and GSM, these cases are also described.
Indoor and outdoor small cell planning is covered, including the planning and business requirements as well as the technical aspects of planning such as link budgeting and propagation modelling. Perhaps one of the most challenging facets of small cell system is managing interference; here various interference cases will be described along with methods for avoiding interference.
